First Aid Responder Course

The Health & Safety Authority (HSA) now recognises the PHECC First Aid Responder Course (FAR) as meeting the needs of occupational first aid.

The FAR Standard was developed by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) an independent statutory body who set the standards for education and training for pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland.

This comprehensive 3-day occupational First Aid Responder (FAR) Course covers all the essential aspects of providing occupational first aid treatment.

The course provides the learner with the knowledge, practical skills to give effective CPR, diagnose & treat injuries or illness, and maintain care and comfort of the casualty.

 It is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency first aid should the need arise.

Who should attend?

Anyone who wants to be trained and certified as a First Aid Responder and deliver first aid care according to the protocols taught in the course.

This course is perfect for anyone who is required to act as first aider in their place of work, community group, voluntary organisation and in the home. It is also a fantastic introduction to providing emergency care and using a defibrillator.

First Aid Responder Course Contents

Learners who successfully complete this First Aid Responder Course will:

  • Understand the responsibilities of the occupational first aider.
  • Be familiar with health and safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace
  • Be able to provide treatment for preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical aid
  • Be able to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse
  • Be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace

Complies with HSA Standards

All Excel Safety Service instructors delivering this course are Cardiac First Response Instructors registered with the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council, First Aid Response Instructors registered with PHECC and hold a QQI trainers award for delivery of Occupational First Aid, This course is run to current Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council education and training standards and current HSA standards.

This PHECC accredited First Aid Response course awards certificates which are valid for 2 years.

A 2 day refresher course is required after two years to stay in certification.
